tales from an ordinary world

1999-05-14

Since I had nothing to do tonight, I ended up tagging aloing with Fiona and co. to see Frenzal Rhomb at the Hi-Fi Bar. Surprisingly enough, one of the support bands was Mach Pelican, 3 Japanese dudes who'd come to Melbourne via Perth or something, and had their gear stolen somewhere along the way - I'd seen an ad for them sometime last year in Tonkatsu Joshu, a little Japanese place I eat at in the city a fair bit. Not too long after that, Matt mentioned he'd seen them somewhere or other, and they weren't arf bad. So yeah. Mach Pelican rocked. I even managed to score one of their posters off the wall (everybody else was after the Frenzal Rhomb ones, of course...). The other support bands were 28 Days (pretty good) and Toe to Toe, from Sydney - loud, fist-shaking stuff, but I could have done without it tonight. I could appreciate the music in a basic sort of way - nice and loud and good for stress relief - but no way could I understand a word the guy sang...Frenzal Rhomb were good fun, and I even managed to recognize some of the songs ;)
