My CDNow order arrived :
The Mekons - Curse of the Mekons / Fun '90 : More magic that I'm yet to fully appreciate, although I'd already heard a version of the very good funeral on one of those rarities releases of recent times.
The Gun Club - Mother Juno : perhaps not quite as raw and desperate as Fire of Love, and there's one or two really 80's-sounding guitar riffs in at least one song, but that's ok, it's growing on me already.
Slowdive - Souvlaki : I already know how wonderful this is...it was time to get my own copy.

I may not (so far) run the kind of blog that posts social conscience linkage - other friends seem to have it covered better than I could manage (yes, I'm aware that's no excuse), but this doesn't mean that I don't care about the State of ThingsTM.

That'd be the US version of Souvlaki with the 3 bonus tracks after Dagger, right?
Their other albums are also worth looking into; Just For A Day is perhaps a bit rawer but every bit as intricate; their last one, Pygmalion, is completely different, and more like minimalist post-rock or something.
And then there are their long-deleted EPs (some people trade in CD-R burns of them), and unreleased demos (typically only found on MP3 sharing services), which are also worth a look. Some of the demos make more use of electronics than their album work.

Yeah, with the bonus tracks. I'm wishing I'd bought the Rowland S. Howard / Lydia Lunch cover of _Some Velvet Morning_ when I saw it at Greville Records last year...woulda been interesting to see what the two of them did with it, compared to Slowdive.
