The Church - The Unguarded Moment

The Church - The Unguarded Moment : Well, I couldn't let this go, could I ? It now sits with my copy of the Sing Songs EP (sorta rare-ish) and my signed copy of the Remote Luxury EP.

The Go-Betweens - Send Me A Lullaby The Go-Betweens - Before Hollywood

The Go-Betweens - Send Me A Lullaby and Before Hollywood (the 2002 remaster/reissue with bonus discs) : They were only $5 cheaper than I've seen them anywhere else, but it was enough to make me think "ok, it's time." It's been so long since I'd put them on, too, and when Grant McLennan's bass snakes up like an old friend in Your Turn, My Turn it's enough to make me confess. I'm sorry I spent so much time recently merely remembering how good the Go-Betweens are/were instead of actually listening to them. All these little moments - the pitter-patter drumming in Cattle and Cane, Robert Forster's perfectly paranoid vocal delivery in Eight Pictures and the bit near the end of the same song where the drums kick in after the chorus, like a knee to the groin - these musical moments won't leave me. Please don't leave me.

"i recall
a bigger brighter world..."

Happy Australia Day.

I vaguely remember when unguarded moment was released and actually have that single (in vinyl). Other vinyl singles along those lines include The Clash, Machinations, Venetians, Pet Shop Boys, The Call, Jeff Beck, Uncanny X-Men, Models etc etc (and a whole heap I dare not mention).

I'll stop here now as to not incriminate myself further. Yes, I'm old.

it's ok, You're Allowed(tm). I've never been much of a single-buyer, but it's one of my long-time favourite band, so...

but wow. The Uncanny X-Men. that's a band I haven't heard in a long, long time.

I'll deveulge a dirty secret about the Uncanny X-Men. When your in your teens, you tend to have some sort of rock idol in your life and the Uncanny X-men were it.

Being a Melbourne band, I saw them live more times than I like to mention. And by doing so, have their complete discography (if you call it that) on vinyl.

I've also probably got close to 300 vinyl LP's sitting in a dark place. I DID have a list of them somewhere. I'll probably sell them oneday, for a tidy little profit.

Emma:

Just wanting to add to comments made by Scott about the Uncanny X-men. At the time I considered myself to be THE biggest X-men fan. At the tender age of 15, i would travel by train to and from their east coast gigs-u name it from qld to vic, and either sneak my way into the clubs (i was under age)or if caught was happy to sit in the car park listening to the band. I knew the performance line up by heart and still have an enormous amount of collectables: records, tapes, posters,clippings,t-shirts,autographs,photos etc - i bet the band's own mothers didn't collect as much as I did.... Anyway, what's my point? Just to acknowledge the band as one of the greats of the 80's and a very exciting part of my youth.
