Ye Gods. And I was just listening to Cunnamulla Feller last night, too. I reckon John Williamson said it right:
"Slim was the voice that kept the link with Banjo and Henry Lawson...[He] showed me the strength of a simple Aussie ballad. No frills - as pure and as straight to the point as the characters he sang about."
See if you can dig up a copy of the Slim Dusty tribute album Not So Dusty - especially the one with the bonus disc of originals. It's a good overview of some of his much-loved tracks and the covers are generally pretty well done too (especially Ed Kuepper's epic rock cover of Camooweal).
Who's next? I'd hate to think.

I may not (so far) run the kind of blog that posts social conscience linkage - other friends seem to have it covered better than I could manage (yes, I'm aware that's no excuse), but this doesn't mean that I don't care about the State of ThingsTM.

Yeah, I bet there are some music legends out there shitting themselves. These things usually come in threes.

Well, Warren Zevon died a few days before Johnny Cash, so maybe that's the three? We can only hope...
