twenty-five seconds of silence

It's been a while since I mentioned the kind of stuff I've been buying, so here's today's lunchtime haul:

  • Iron and Wine's new Our Endless Numbered Days. I hadn't heard anything about it, it was Just ThereTM. Neato.

  • R U O K ? - Meat Beat Manifesto's fairly recent release, which, again, I found by random chance staring into the shelves at JB for a minute or two. I'm partway through it right now - it's treading the familiar Jack Dangers ground (I can even spot a few samples recycled from old MBM albums), but since I haven't listened to any of it in ages, I don't really mind (and if you don't own one of the old albums - I recommend Satyricon or Subliminal Sandwich - get thee to a nunnery). I left the Stereolab album behind for a rainy day.

  • An odd find at Dixons Recycled - SYR 5 - Kim Gordon, DJ Olive and Ikue Mori (after all these years, I still haven't gotten around to getting into Ikue Mori. I don't know if this'll help, but we'll see).

  • Somebody's been selling Scientists 7-inches in Dixons, too - I picked up We Had Love / Clear Spot last week, and this week I got This Is My Happy Hour / Swampland (there's one for Atom Bomb Baby still sitting behind the counter - these two oughta do for me).

  • Also lurking behind the counter at Dixons was a copy of the Dogs In Space soundtrack (snap!), which'll fit nicely into my collection...

I'm not sure what's next. I've been enjoying David Sylvian's Blemish (though the Derek Bailey guitar wank doesn't do much for me, yet). It made a perfect accompaniment as I walked from North Melbourne over to Abbotsford for a few beers with this bloke. There's all sorts of tiny noises in here, mixed in with wonderful lyrical fragments (I never thought I'd hear him boast that every night is wedding night in my bed...).
