David Bowie covering a song by The Pixies ? I never thought I'd see the day. Still, I never thought he'd cover Morrissey, either, and he did...

I may not (so far) run the kind of blog that posts social conscience linkage - other friends seem to have it covered better than I could manage (yes, I'm aware that's no excuse), but this doesn't mean that I don't care about the State of ThingsTM.

Cactus is a great album track on the Pixies album but I reckon Bowie must be getting desperate. Haven't heard it yet though.....

desperate or just trying to prove a constant sense of diversity ? I dunno.
but yes, the original is certainly great track from a fine album. There was a New Years Eve party at Scod's place early in the 90's where his friend Karlys claimed that the quality of Pixies albums was basically a steady decline from the beginning. He didn't have much time for _Trompe Le Monde_, f'rinstance. Looking at Frank Black's solo career...well...I suppose he's even more correct now than he was then, although I had trouble accepting it at the time...

Can't argue with Karlys. I also feel the Pixies' albums got worse as they liked each other less. I saw the Pixies 3 times the same year I saw Spiritualised and they had a great live set but I got the feeling they couldn't stand each other.
Don't write Big Charles off yet!

oh. I still have hopes for Mr Frank. Some of the Catholics albums were pretty good, although that most recent one didn't seem like much, unfortunately...
