mighty fine

via typographica, I really like the look of Gotham (see also the "more information" page, which makes for interesting reading, especially for all-too-amateur font nerds like myself).

It's $200! US$200!

"Included in Mac OS X are over $1,000 worth of high quality fonts for Roman languages..." http://www.apple.com/fonts/buy/ A strange accounting.

cos:

yeah. USD$200. stop reminding me.

as for Mac OS X, if you go to the next page ("learn more about fonts in Mac OS X"), they claim it's $10,000 worth of fonts instead of $1,000. I wish they'd make up their mind. Either way, they ship Gill Sans, which has been my favourite font for at least half a decade, now.

I didn't notice that, but reading more closely I think Apple thinks they're providing $9,000 of Japanese fonts. (That ridiculously precise figure in Yen converts to over $10,000 in USD.) I should sell 'em, and buy myself a TiBook...

Andrew et. al.: email me and I'll set you up w/ an account so you can post at Typographica. JLT

All this font talk reminds me of something: what character are you supposed to use for an apostrophe? Do you use the single close quote? (&8217;)

Well, here's one point of view (see towards the end of the article) - http://www.alistapart.com/stories/emen/
