via acb, somebody's webbified the first edition Melway, the beloved and preferred map of the citizens of Melbourne Town. Note the Drive-In Theatre index :). Glen Waverley looks a bit bare - the street I grew up on runs out just before where my parents live, but the SEC Transmission Lines are already there. Also, notice the bold typeface used for the main street names - it looks very 60's, eh?

I may not (so far) run the kind of blog that posts social conscience linkage - other friends seem to have it covered better than I could manage (yes, I'm aware that's no excuse), but this doesn't mean that I don't care about the State of ThingsTM.

Cool! being a bit of a map fiend, there's a developing melways collection at home. I'd *love* to get a really old one, for now we just stick with the five different copies that have been picked up as neighbours "upgrade".

I'll ashamedly admit that I drew over my parents' 1975 edition - filling in all those "proposed freeways" and such (like the SE Arterial, since it was built by the time I was drawing on it). Ah well.
