I got there in time for a drink before Slowville started, on a tiny stage in the back room. A very simple setup - acoustic guitar plus occasional use of a discman for the backing track. His songs were of the lonely, wistful variety, and he sung not too unlike...um...maybe I'm thinking of the guy from Something for Kate, but not so developed. The circumstances weren't really condusive to the quiet he deserved, unfortunately. I'd like to see him again, in a better location. A cover of Sparklehorse's most beautiful widow in town popped in before the last few songs, the final one in which he points out that "I could be the one true thing in your whole damn life." Well put.

I may not (so far) run the kind of blog that posts social conscience linkage - other friends seem to have it covered better than I could manage (yes, I'm aware that's no excuse), but this doesn't mean that I don't care about the State of ThingsTM.
